In the UK, studio made AI product images usually cost a few hundred pounds each, and less per image when you buy in bulk or on a monthly plan. DIY tools are cheaper, but you pay in time and accuracy risk.

How much does AI product photography cost in the UK?

There are three broad ways to pay for AI product photography, and they sit at very different price points. You can use a self serve AI tool on a monthly subscription. You can hire a freelancer who uses AI tools. Or you can work with a studio that directs, produces and checks the images for you.

Self serve tools are the cheapest on paper. Freelancers vary a lot in price and in how carefully they check the product. Studios cost more per image, but the price usually includes art direction, accuracy checks and changes, which is where most of the hidden cost lives.

As a worked example, here is how one London studio prices one-off AI image projects. All prices exclude VAT, and each image is a final picked from several variations.

PackagePricePrice per image
1 image£500£500
5 images£1,750£350
10 images£3,000£300
15 images£4,000about £267

Why do AI product photos cost anything at all?

It's a fair question. If a tool can make an image in seconds, why pay hundreds of pounds for one? The answer is that the generation is the cheap part. The expensive part is getting an image that shows your actual product, correctly, in a scene that fits your brand.

AI tools are good at making something that looks like a serum bottle. They are less reliable at making your serum bottle, with the right cap, the right label wording and the right shade of glass. Someone has to direct the image, compare it with the real product and fix every drift. That human time is what you are paying for.

For beauty brands this matters more than most. A wrong shade on a foundation or a misspelled ingredient on a label is not a small flaw. It is a product that doesn't exist, and it can mislead a customer.

What affects the price of AI product images?

When you compare quotes, look at what is included rather than the headline number. These are the things that move the price up or down.

  • Number of images. Most providers lower the price per image as volume goes up.
  • Complexity of the product. Clear glass, metallic caps, fine print and textures like balms or gels take more work to keep accurate.
  • Art direction. A simple packshot on a plain background is quicker than a styled campaign scene with props, light and mood.
  • Rounds of changes. Check how many rounds are included per image and what extra rounds cost.
  • Usage rights. Make sure you get full commercial use, including paid ads, without time limits you weren't expecting.
  • Formats. An image composed for 9:16 and another composed for 4:5 are often two requests, not one image cropped twice.
  • Animation or video. Bringing a still to life or making a short film is priced separately in most cases.

Is AI product photography cheaper than a photoshoot?

Usually, yes, especially for small and medium volumes. A traditional beauty shoot carries fixed costs before a single frame is taken: photographer, studio hire, set build, styling, models, hair and make up, retouching and more. Those costs make sense for a big hero campaign, but they are hard to justify when you only need a handful of new images.

As a guide, a two day London beauty campaign shoot can come to around £35,500 for about 22 finished assets, and take 4 to 6 weeks from brief to delivery. We break that down line by line in how much a beauty product photoshoot costs in the UK.

That doesn't make AI the right answer every time. If you need a real person using the product, or you want behind the scenes content from a set, a shoot still earns its place. Our guide to AI vs a traditional photoshoot goes through when each one wins.

Should you pay per project or monthly?

Per project pricing suits a single launch, a one-off campaign or a test. You know the total upfront and you stop when it's delivered.

A monthly plan suits brands that need fresh creative all the time, for example to keep paid social ads from going stale or to cover new shades and seasonal drops. You usually get a lower price per asset and the same designer learning your brand over time.

For example, Niko x Studios offers a Studio Membership from £5,000 a month for 15 curated images and 5 animations, with no contract and the option to pause or cancel. If you would only use that volume once, a project is the better deal. If you'd use it every month, the membership usually works out cheaper per asset.

What should be included in the price?

Before you sign anything, ask each provider to confirm the following in writing. If they can't, factor that into the real cost.

  • How many variations you see before choosing each final image.
  • How many rounds of changes are included, and how quickly each round comes back.
  • Whether product mistakes are fixed free, even after the included rounds.
  • Who checks the product against the real thing, and how.
  • Full commercial usage rights, including paid ads and marketplaces.
  • Turnaround time from a complete brief to first delivery.
  • What is not included, such as music licensing for video.

How do you keep the cost down?

The cheapest image is the one you only make once. Most extra cost comes from unclear briefs and missing product information, which lead to more rounds of changes.

Send clean packshots of the front, back and side of every product, your brand guidelines, and two or three reference images that show the look you want. Be specific about format, setting and mood. Batch similar products together so one direction can cover several images. Our guide on what product photos to send covers this in detail.

If you're unsure whether AI suits your product at all, try a single image or a free sample first before committing to a bigger package.

Questions people also ask

Can I make AI product photos myself for free?

You can try, and some tools have free tiers. The risk is accuracy: free and cheap tools often change labels, caps or colours, and you need the time and skill to spot and fix that. For a quick social test it can work. For product pages and paid ads, most brands want a person checking every image.

Is there a minimum spend for AI product photography?

It depends on the provider. Some studios will make a single image, others sell packages only. A single image is a sensible way to test quality before you buy in volume.

Do AI product images cost extra for different sizes?

Often, yes. A well made image is composed for its frame, so a 9:16 story and a 4:5 feed post may be two separate requests rather than one crop. Ask how formats are counted before you compare quotes.

Are usage rights included in the price?

They should be, but always check. Look for full commercial usage, including paid ads and marketplaces, with no time limit. Ask about this before you approve a quote, not after.

How much does AI product video cost compared with images?

Video costs more because there is more to direct and check frame by frame. As a guide, short AI product videos in the UK often start in the low thousands of pounds for 15 seconds.
